FAQ

I want you to edit my book. Now what?

You can send me a message or complete the Client Questionnaire.

After I review your answers, I may send you a different form to get more information or schedule a Discovery Call to discuss things.

Once we agree to work together, I send a contract outlining the cost, dates of service, and other details, then a single invoice for the service(s) you’ve chosen.

If your service includes a post-edit call, you schedule that within two weeks of the manuscript return date.

What is the payment schedule?

For manuscript evaluations and project consultations, full payment is due before work begins.

For editing services, depending on cost and length of the service, payments are divided into two or three roughly equal installments.

  • For two installments, one is due on the start date before work begins, and the other is due on the return date before the manuscript is returned.
  • For three installments, one is due on the start date, one is due around the midpoint of the edit; and one is due on the return date.
Do you offer bundled services?

Yes. The Line + Copy Edit is available to all.

For certain authors, I also offer a Comprehensive Edit that includes developmental editing (fiction) or content editing (nonfiction) and a line + copy edit, all conducted at the same time.

If you’re interested in this service, send me a message.

Do you offer ghostwriting services?

No. I only offer book doctoring services for contemporary romance on a case-by-case basis. Send me a message if you’re interested.

Are you willing to sign an NDA?

Of course! Our contract also includes a confidentiality clause.

Which style guide do you use?

The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, but I sometimes vary from its recommendations to honor an author’s preferences.

Do you offer refunds if I am unsatisfied with your work?

No, and here’s why.

Before the work begins, I confirm your expectations through the following tools:

  • Description of Services;
  • Client Questionnaires and similar forms;
  • Discovery Call; and/or
  • Service Contract.

Together they ensure that your expectations of me—and my understanding of those expectations—are clear and agreed upon. The signed contract is the culmination of the other tools, and I operate squarely within its scope.

If you are unsatisfied with my work, we can discuss your concerns, and I may provide additional services/feedback if deemed appropriate.

But there are no refunds on completed work.
