FAQ

I want you to edit my book. Now what?

You can send me a message or complete the Client Questionnaire.

After I review your answers, I will email you for more information (if needed) or to propose terms, including scope of service, the cost, payment arrangements, and dates of service.

If/once we agree on the above, I’ll send you a contract outlining those details, then a single invoice for the service(s) you’ve chosen.

If the start date is more than three weeks away, to reserve that date, you’ll pay a deposit of no more than 10% of the total cost.

On the start date, you will email me a Word document of your manuscript. I will check in with you once or twice during the service (depending on its length) to confirm that the work is proceeding as expected and/or on time.

When I am finished your manuscript—which will be on or before the return-by date—I will email you. Once you submit the final payment, I will return the manuscript with the editorial letter or the style sheet (if your service includes one.)

After I return your manuscriptyour service includes a post-edit call, you may schedule that one week after the manuscript return date.

If you have any more questions, feel free to message me!

Do you work with authors who use generative or web-based AI?

I only work with authors, so I do not work with people who use AI to write/create their manuscripts for them.

This does not apply to those who use AI to transcribe their words.

What is the payment schedule?

For project consultations, full payment is due before work begins.

For manuscript evaluations or editing services, the author and I agree on an installment plan that works with their budget and needs. All payments are due between the start date and the date the manuscript is returned.

Do you offer bundled services?

Yes. The Line + Copy Edit is a bundled service available to all.

If you’d like to bundle other services, we can discuss that.

Do you offer ghostwriting services?

No. I only offer book doctoring services for contemporary or YA romance on a case-by-case basis. Send me a message if you’re interested.

Are you willing to sign an NDA?

Of course! Our contract also includes a confidentiality clause.

Which style guide do you use?

The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, but I sometimes vary from its recommendations to honor an author’s preferences or other common fiction conventions.

Do you offer refunds if I am unsatisfied with your work?

No, and here’s why.

Before the work begins, I confirm your expectations through the following tools:

  • Description of Services;
  • Client Questionnaires and similar forms;
  • Discovery Call and/or emails; and
  • Service Contract.

They all ensure that your expectations of me—and my understanding of those expectations—are clear and agreed upon. The signed contract is the culmination of the other tools, and I operate squarely within its scope.

If you are unsatisfied with my work, we can discuss your concerns, and I may provide additional services/feedback if deemed appropriate.

But there are no refunds on completed work.
